Welcome to Alton Choral Society

Our Good Friday Concert raises over £850
Alton Choral society gave it’s annual ‘Reflective Music for Good Friday’ concert to a full house at Alton Methodist Church on 3rd April. The concert raised over £850 for Naomi House & Jacksplace, the hospices for Children and young adults.
Directed by Wendy Busby and accompanied by Jane Palmer, the choir gave moving performances of Fauré’s “Requiem” and his early work “Cantique de Jean Racine”. The solos in the requiem were performed with great skill and sensitivity by Andrew Berkley and Wendy.
Alison Crow joined Wendy for a beautiful performance of Mendelssohn’s “I waited For The Lord” accompanied with great delicacy by Patrick Busby on piano.
Kathy Starkey offered a compelling performance of John Rutter’s “Lament For The Holy City” on flute also accompanied by Patrick. A particularly fitting instrumental piece for Good Friday.
Alton Choral Society’s next concert will be on Saturday 27thJune in Alton Methodist Church (see below) when we will be supporting Alton Foodbank in it’s 15th anniversary year with a programme of famous opera choruses and arias.

Alton Choral Society rehearsals
We are always looking for new members to join our friendly choir. A basic knowledge of reading music is recommended and a love of making music absolutely essential!
We rehearse at the Salvation Army Hall (on the corner across the road from the Market Square – GU34 1HN) on Wednesday evenings from 7.45pm.
If you are interested in joining us, please come along to one of our rehearsals and contact our secretary at welcome@altonchoral.org.uk, or call Wendy Busby: 07715 771489.
We sing four-part harmony from sheet music. Very few, if any, are ‘sight-readers’ and Wendy takes learning new material one step at a time.
No auditions.
